Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack – First Impression

If you’re planning a ‘Buffalo Bill’ or Slipknot inspired Halloween costume, look no further than the Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack – it’s pretty creepy looking. Seriously though, I received this as a free sample in a Rose Rose Shop order, and decided to give it a try.

I don’t use masks very often, but when I do, well, I look like this:

This felt strange, partly because I’m simply not used to masks. It felt wet and cold, also a bit slimy, like there was a lot of product on it. It was all in one piece, and not really a great fit on my small face. Some of the whatever-the-hell-is-on-it dripped into my mouth and tasted revolting, in an alcohol kind of way. Not in a Chambord cocktail sense, but in a “if you drank nail polish remover, this is probably what it would taste like” way. Really gross. Please do not drink your mask.

Despite feeling wet and cold, I also felt quite hydrated while wearing the mask, it didn’t feel as unpleasant as I’m making it sound, I promise. Due to it not fitting comfortably, I didn’t think I’d wear it long, but once I sat down and didn’t think about it, I ended up wearing it for around half an hour (I can’t read Korean so made up my own instructions, haha). It was easy to remove, just lifted right off and my skin felt soft and smooth, absolutely lovely.

I enjoyed using this far more than I thought I would (and it was hilariously entertaining for my husband…I think my wee boy would have burst into tears if he saw me though), and I love how my skin felt afterwards. No sensitivity, no tingling or redness, just nice and moist.

If you prefer not to use a mask, the same formula is available as a lotion, serum, essence and steam cream – check them all out here on Rose Rose Shop. W2Beauty also sell some of them, and have free shipping worldwide too! Personally, I’d try something easier to use, like a lotion just because I don’t do masks very often but I’d happily do this again too.

I would definitely recommend giving Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack a go!

This was received as a free sample in a Rose Rose Shop order, I am not affiliated with them in any way. I am an affiliate of W2Beauty and if you purchase through them from my link I receive a small percentage, which will go towards purchasing more items to review and giveaway on this blog.

September Empties!

I know the month isn’t over yet but I don’t think I’ll have any more, so here they are!

Australis Curve Eyeliner

Received as GWP…longer ago than I’d like to admit! Not currently available to purchase, as far as I’m aware.

Bit sad that the time has come to let this go! Technically it still works, but the brush is munted and it’s dry. I wish I could replace this, as I liked the unusual curve design and it was a good liner. NYX have their own version of it, so hopefully I can try that in future.

Would I buy again or recommend? : Yes, I think I would. It won’t suit everyone, but I personally found the curve easy to grip, and it helped with my lack of co-ordination. I struggle to draw a straight line, even just pen on paper, so liquid eyeliner is a real challenge for me, but this makes it a little easier.

Lipidol After Shower Oil

$9.95 at Farmers, they sometimes have 10-20% off beauty products, and you get your beauty club points on it too 😉

I love my nearly-1-year-old son to bits, so I say this with the deepest love and respect, but gosh, kids can be weird at that age! C’s favourite things right now are empty yogurt pottles, and this oil. He LOVES shaking up the bottle and watching the bubbles and oil move round. It’s a weird obsession, seriously he’s had hours of entertainment just watching it bubble up and settle down again.

Anyway, I mentioned in December I bought the face oil and didn’t like it “because it was too oily” (yes, really, I know that sounds silly). As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve had my usual winter eczema this year, and I started using this oil all over my body, mostly after showers. It is fantastic! It feels less oily and greasy than the face oil did, and dries quickly. It’s made a difference to my dry skin (although obviously if you have a skin condition, please seek medical advice before using), and right now I’m looking and feeling really good, although this is also partly due to the warmer weather too.

Would I buy again or recommend? : Yes, definitely! Will be repurchasing soon.

Impulse Vanilla Kisses body spray

$3 from Uncle Bills – if anyone knows where I can source this, please get in touch and I will be eternally grateful!

I know you’re probably thinking I must be like, 10 years old, to have a bottle of Impulse in my empties, but hear me out. I get migraines from so many other fragrances, and one of the few things I can wear are some of the varieties of Impulse and Cool Charm. And I like them, and they’re cheap, Mmmkay?

Vanilla Kisses is a very nostalgic smell for me. I got my first bottle at age 10, yes that’s nearly 20 years ago! I felt so grown up, I barely even knew the basics of puberty but I knew this was “big girls stuff” (atleast, that’s what my 10 year old mind thought). I loved that scent and made it last, adding many other Impulses to my collection in the years to come (I.D, Goddess, Tease, Alive, my all-time favourite Devotion…anyone else remember these?). Sadly, Impulse have gone a bit more ‘fancy’ and their recent blends just make me feel ill.

So, I was ecstatic to find Vanilla Kisses at Uncle Bills in Kilbirnie last year and bought two bottles, which is unusual for me – I hardly buy the same thing twice. I wish I’d bought 20. I can’t get any more and I am so sad to have finally used the last of it. I love it as much aged almost 30 as I did as a 10 year old.

Would I buy again or recommend? : HELL YEAH! I would give ANYTHING! I need, need, need this in my life and I won’t sleep til I find another one.

Ecostore Baby Sleepytime Bath

$7.99 at supermarket, sometimes a bit cheaper on special

I reviewed this in my August Empties post – it did last longer than a month, we had two open at the same time for awhile.

Would I buy again or recommend? : No, we’re just going to stick to using Ecostore Body Wash on my son. It does have a lovely, relaxing scent though.

I also had a few more empty sample sachets of Too Cool for School Fresh Gore and Pumpkin Sleeping Packs again, and Benton Snail Mask which I will review very soon.

My $3.50 Mini-Haul from The Warehouse

I’m not sure if there’s a minimum as to what would quantify a ‘mini-haul’, but this is incredibly small and cheap, even by my standards! I can never resist a good trip to The Warehouse, and my Fathers Day gift-finding mission took me there the other day. You know when you buy someone a present (a DVD my husband has been trying to track down for YEARS that I had to order from England) and it doesn’t arrive on time (my fault!) so you go buy them something to tide them over til it gets here. So last week, I found a Batman Fathers Day mug to add to our ever-growing collection of Batmanobilia (is that a word? did I just make that a word?). I also bought a $1 can of Cherry 7-Up, but I’m not including that in the haul either.

So, what did this “mini-haul” entail, exactly? Nothing too exciting.

Cameo Glass Nail File –  47 cents

Yes, seriously, 47 cents. It still had the old $3.97 price sticker on it, so if you see one at your local Warehouse just get them to check. They had some Cameo hair accessories at the same price too. I couldn’t find them on their website, so it may just be an instore special, you might need to see what your store has.

Biore Gentle Makeup Remover Wipes (25 pack) – $2.97

These contained Green Tea, which did make me wonder if they’d react with my sensitive skin. Unfortunately, they did, hurting my eyes immediately after using them. My eyes settled down quickly, and there was no redness or anything, and they seemed to do an OK job of removing my quite heavy makeup. I probably won’t personally use them again, but if you don’t have sensitive skin you might want to try them at that price. It’s definitely a fantastic saving, but not worth it if you have a reaction to them. Should’ve just bought another 3 cans of Cherry 7-UP.

UPDATE : I’ve used these a few times now, couldn’t help myself until I get a replacement, and although they do sting slightly at first, they have no adverse effects and do work well, so although I won’t buy again, I will use them until I get something better.

I have no affiliation with The Warehouse or any brands stated in this post, all items were purchased by myself at the stated prices, and I do not receive any compensation of any kind for this post.

August Empties

Spring is here!

And Lewis Rd Creamery milk has finally arrived down in the South Island. After developing a taste for their delicious chocolate milk when I lived in the North, I’ve really missed it! Anyway, as you can see by my photo, today I got my hands on the new Vanilla flavour, it was all they had left. It tasted exactly like eggnog, which was nice but definitely not as good as the original chocolate one. Looking forward to the coffee one when I can find it.

On another off-topic note, I have been quite sick of late with a “mystery illness”. We finally have some answers, it’s a case of mastitis (breast infection) which has spread quite quickly through my body, leaving me ill and exhausted. So I am on antibiotics, and am on the mend now 🙂

Now, on to the empties!

Ecostore Baby Sleepytime Bath $7 RRP

Ok, I’m cheating a bit, this was my sons. I’m putting it in here though as I think some of you would actually use it on yourselves, if you like a gentle, relaxing, lavender scented bath.

Would I purchase again or recommend? We did repurchase it but won’t again. It was nice enough but hard to tell if it makes a difference to my babies sleep – he slept fine without it anyway! Does make the bath and body smell lovely though.

Nutrimetics Makeup Removing Wipes $7 RRP

I had a friend selling Nutrimetics so ordered a few things to give her some support. Makeup wipes are always handy! These were good, gentle enough for my sensitive skin, they did the job fine.

Would I purchase again or recommend? There’s nothing special or exciting about them, but they do what you want them to do, and are fine for quite delicate skin, so yes I would buy again and recommend to others. Just a bit of a pain you have to order from Nutrimetics and can’t just buy in a shop!

KAMA Shower Gel $15 RRP

International readers, you are missing out! Think this can only be purchased in New Zealand. This is something of a cult product, and you’ll either love or hate it. For me, it’s a real favourite of mine – a strong, sensual, exotic fragrance, it has that “New Age shop” smell. You can buy it as a perfume oil, cream perfume, deodorant, or shower gel – perfect for layering! The shower gel has ingredients that are fine for my skin, and the gel leaves a faint trance of the gorgeous scent on my skin. I find it a luxurious treat to use in the shower.

Would I purchase again or recommend? Yes, of course! I don’t buy the same thing often but I’ve used up many of these, and often get them as gifts because people know its a favourite of mine and something I can use. The fragrance isn’t for everyone though, so your mileage may definitely vary.

The Body Shop Wild Rose Hand Cream SPF15+ $24 for 100ml, or $13 for 30ml. I bought my 30ml tube at a Big Bucket sale for $9.

This is a lovely, rich hand cream, perfect for winter! If you love the smell of roses, you will definitely need to give this a try. This cream is great for slightly dry skin, unfortunately I have had contact dermatitis on my hands over winter, made worse by the fact that our dishwasher broke and I’ve had to wash dishes by hand (worlds smallest violin is playing just for me, I know), so this cream wasn’t really suitable for that. LOVED the scent though.

Would I purchase again or recommend? I would purchase as a gift, or if my hands were just a bit dry and not so cracked as they are now. Would recommend to anyone who loves rose – not much point if you don’t!

Mizon Original Skin Energy Placenta 45 sample (free with my Rose Rose Shop order)

This was a weird product. I opened the tiny packet, planning to just use it across my forehead (I’m not that concerned about wrinkles, but as I approach 30, I can’t deny they are appearing in places). There was absolutely fuck-all in the packet, so I’m glad I don’t have a Luke Perry-esque forehead. The texture was bland, I tried photographing it but there was nothing to show. I could hardly feel it on my skin, and really it was completely pointless! I’d have to try a bigger sample to get an idea of how I feel about it, I’m not saying it’s a bad product, just that I didn’t get a feel for it at all.

Would I purchase again or recommend? No!

Dermalab Super Hydrating Cream $15 RRP

Meh. This is a very average moisturiser, branded as something more expensive than it should be. It’s an OK product, don’t get me wrong, but there are cheaper things that are just as good. In fact, a boring old cream from your dr will do the same job better and cheaper! Save your money on this one.

Would I purchase again or recommend? Only if you found it super cheap.

OPI Mini Polish – Mariah Carey Liquid Sand “Can’t Let Go”. Not for sale seperately, but I paid $24 for the set of 4 minis at a Big Bucket Sale.

I’m not a big fan of liquid sand, especially when it comes to removing it! The colour was too light for me, I’d end up layering it over a darker purple and building up it’s opacity. To me, it felt a bit childish and tacky, rather than luxurious and opulent like I’d expect from OPI.

Would I purchase again or recommend? No

EOS Lip Balm – Strawberry Sorbet $8.50 at Marthas Backyard, also available in Big Bucket sales, etc.

I wanted to order a stash of American lollies so thought I’d make my purchase worthwhile by adding on something “practical”. The service from Marthas Backyard was great, very quick and efficient and I loved my delicious treats.

I liked the smell and texture of the EOS lip balm, but found the round shape a pain in the ass to be quite honest. I have also heard horrible things about these developing mould! When it gets right down to the bottom, it’s pretty much impossible to use too. The cute packaging is a novelty, but ultimately I find it kind of annoying.

Would I purchase again or recommend? I wouldn’t purchase again for myself as I’ve found other balms I prefer (Notoriously Morbid Coffin Kissers!), but I know other people swear by these, so I do think you should give them a try.

Not pictured : a few samples of Too Cool for School Fresh Gore Sleeping Pack, and Pumpkin Sleeping pack which I previously reviewed.

No affiliate links have been used in this post. All items were purchased by myself, with the exception of the Mizon Placenta sample (free sample with a Rose Rose Shop order), and the KAMA shower gel which was a gift from my sister-in-law).
