Snatch A Deal – My First Purchase!

Recently, Snatch A Deal had an offer I couldn’t refuse on dishwashing tablets (yes, I’m a boring old adult now).  I hate paying postage on sites like that (they charge $7.95 for North Island), I feel like I’m getting much less of a bargain, so I felt I had to justify the cost somehow (gotta spend money to make money, amirite?).

I threw these into my cart too:

L’oreal Nail Vernis – Rock And Roll Denim ($2)

This is a gorgeous colour, and quite hard to find now as it was a seasonal release. I LOVE this, it’s an unusual colour – metallic blue with particles of silver/grey,  it dried quickly and gave good coverage.  The only negative thing I can say is Snatch A Deal usually exaggerate the value of their items, and they claim this retails at $24.95.  It never has, and it doesn’t. These are very small bottles, and they retail in stores for $9.95.

Would I buy again or recommend? :  Yes! Personally I prefer small bottles of nail polish, so the size doesn’t bother me, and at this price it’s a really good deal, and a great colour! Kind of wish I’d picked up ‘Majestic Green’ at the same time though.

L’Oreal Glam Shine 8Hr Lipgloss Endless Carmine ($2)

This is hard to find now, think it has been discontinued for awhile? This arrived unsealed but obviously unused and unopened, and in good condition. I loved the colour – a shiny, sparkly red, perfect for a top coat over a lipstick! Easy to wear, and had good pigmentation.  I find Glam Shine a bit drying, but it does last well (not 8 hours on me, but better than most others).

Would I buy again or recommend? : Yes for $2, definitely not for the retail cost of $24.95! Also beware if you end up buying it online anywhere, as you may be getting old stock.  The one I got from Snatch A Deal was fine, but they sold out quickly.

AND managed to score my friends signature lipstick, which was recently discontinued and is really hard to find (Revlon Super Lustrous Primose), for just $6.

My parcel arrived fairly quickly – I ordered Thursday night and it arrived Tuesday morning (the courier left it on the doorstep in the brief window of time I was out…which is better than having to chase up a ‘Card To Call’, I guess), and was packaged well, everything arrived safely.  I’d order from Snatch A Deal again

I prefer to buy from cruelty-free, non-animal testing companies,  so I feel I should disclaim that unfortunately L’Oreal are unclear on their animal testing stance, and therefore are considered by PETA to be a brand that does test on animals.  😦

Postie Plus Beauty – September Mini Haul!

I apologise for my on-going camera issues and lack of swatches, etc!  Hopefully I can get that sorted out soon…

Now, when I say “mini” haul, I seriously, SERIOUSLY mean mini! I’m trying to spend an absolute minimum on luxuries this month, bearing in mind my wee boy is going to arrive any minute (It’s week 39, for those of you following my progress!), but I couldn’t resist a little treat at Postie Plus. I went to the store in Kilbirnie, Wellington, although I imagine most stores would have similar stock.

I saw quite a few things that weren’t on their site,  and for the grand total of $12 I picked up the following:

– Kleancolor Nail Polish Removing Wipes (Cherry) – $3

I couldn’t resist trying these (I LOVE LOVE LOVE cherry anything).  I wasn’t expecting much from them, so the fact that they were unimpressive wasn’t surprising at all. I needed 4 of them to remove an average coat of nail polish (not glitter/liquid sand, etc), and had to wash my hands after, they left a very greasy residue. The cherry scent was OK, not worth buying them just for that though.

Would buy again or recommend? :  Nope, unless you just wanted a cheap, on-the-go pack for travel.

– Ulta3 Lipstick in ‘Sweet Passion’ – $6

I generally prefer dark makeup/clothes, but when I do colour, I ‘go big or go home’.  Orange is one of the colours I add to my 90% black sartorial repertoire occasionally, and I have a few orange eyeshadows and lipsticks that I really enjoy wearing.  Ulta3 had two orange shades that looked tempting, and I was impressed with ‘Sweet Passion’. It’s a nice orangey colour, with a shiny, chrome finish. It feels nice, covers my lips well and lasted as long as most lipsticks do on me.  Definitely got my moneys worth for $6! Will have to go back and get more in this range. The only down-side is Postie don’t offer testers, and the stock is sealed so you can’t look at them, it’s a gamble what you’re gonna get!

Would I buy again or recommend? : Are you kidding? How was I living without these in my life before? I need more, and I’d definitely recommend them, especially to anyone on a budget who wants value for money.

– Rimmel Eyeshadow Quad in ‘Thrill Seeker’ – $2.97

I don’t actually own any Rimmel, but I do like the look of some of their products – I figured for less than $3, I couldn’t really go wrong. Although I have lots of eyeshadow, I thought these would be handy colours for days when I need something quick and easy to give me a subtle pick-me-up (I imagine I’m not going to have much of a makeup routine in the near future, I need some low-maintenance stuff!).

I wouldn’t have paid full price but was happy enough with it, the colours aren’t a heavy coverage and they faded fairly quickly, but they are all colours I can and would wear easily so I think I’ll get good use out of this quad. If you can’t get to a Postie Plus, there are also some going cheap on Trademe.

Would I buy again or recommend? : For $3, yes I would.  I wouldn’t go far out of my way to get one, nor spend a fortune on it, but if you find one at a good price,  then give it a try.

Overall, I enjoyed my little stash of treats from Postie Plus, I definitely feel like I got good value for money.  I also found the staff really helpful and friendly too.  Must go back and get more Ulta3!

Edit –  And here’s another photo of my haul:

Beauty Bargains of the Week – September 8th 2014

I will gradually be phasing out these ‘Beauty Bargains’ posts soon, as I get lots of readers from overseas now, and I know it’s completely irrelevant to you – sorry! I am in the process of sorting out my camera for swatches, so I can focus more on that side of things soon.

Did you know you can buy Living Nature products at a huge discount online? They ship nationwide and overseas, and have a constantly changing variety of stock – some short dated or unpackaged, but all at a great saving! Check out the Living Nature Outlet.

As usual, The Warehouse have some beauty bargains – my picks this week are:

bonsai Revlon Bonsai Nail Polish – just $3 until 23rd September 2014.

charlieredCharlie Body Spray – Cheap, cheerful and classic … and just $2 until 30th September 2014.

Several varieties of this are available, including Black and Pink. My all-time favourite, Silver is still impossible to buy though 😦

strawbemilkI Love…Strawberries and Milkshake Body Smoothie  (and other products in that range) – just $5 until 30th September 2014.  Smells amazing, sadly it has way too many chemicals for my delicate skin, but most people seem to find it absolutely fine.

Postie Plus usually has a good range of cosmetics on special, and they didn’t disappoint this week! I like the look of Spa Paradisa lip butter – apparently it doesn’t have too many ‘bad’ chemical ingredients, although I struggled to find an actual list. Juicy Passionfruit sounds nice, I’m not too keen on coconut, so I’ll pass on the Sweet Coconut one. Only $2, this seems to be their usual price rather than a special. They also have L’Oreal Color Riche Lip Liners for only $4 (the Burgundy one is quite wearable and nice).  And finally, I’m well overdue to try the Ulta3 range of nail polishes – they have a wide selection for $4 a piece, I’ve heard good things about them.

Finally, NZSale are having a clearance on Calvin Klein, Revlon, Elizabeth Arden and heaps of other brands, with prices starting at $5, so I’d definitely recommend getting in quickly on that!

Also, if you missed my post on Born Pretty, I would like to remind you about my 10% off code (for anything not already on special). Please use AAXT10 at the checkout as your code. Their prices are amazing, and shipping is free, worldwide! They have a great range of inexpensive jewellery, clothes, makeup, stationary, and assorted goodies.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Help LUSH save the Maui Dolphins!

dolphinSign the petition by LUSH, asking John Key to help protect the 55 existing Maui dolphins.

The Sea Vegetable Soap retails at $7.99/100gm and the Charity Pot retails from $11.50-$39.95

Why not treat yourself, and help save the dolphins too! I just went in to my local LUSH the other day and picked up a free copy of their new magazine ‘Fresh Matters’, which has replaced the ‘Lush Times’ paper. It’s full of interesting info about the ethics and background of LUSH products,  as well as being a catalog of all their current releases .

Revlon September Gift With Purchase – Out Now!

Revlon GWP sets are always generous in terms of their contents, but the colours can be quite average.  Their latest GWP is fantastic though, with wearable products and colours.

I was particularly impressed with the inclusion of Seductive Nail Enamel, a gorgeous vampy dark purple – so much nicer than the peachy neutral colours that you used to get in these sets.  I haven’t tried the Blackest Black Bold Luscious mascara before, but the brush looks like it would be a good one.  The Berry Smoothie lip butter looks like it would be an easy colour to wear (too pinky for my personal liking though), and the 3 pieces come in a silvery clutch bag.

The GWP is available til the end of September 2014, or while stocks last, from Farmers, pharmacies and other Revlon stockists, with the purchase of $65+ worth of Revlon products.

Revlon still have a $2000 Shopping Spree giveaway on their site, until 12th September 2014, so why not be in to win that too?

I am not affiliated with Revlon in any way. I enjoy using their cosmetics, and believe they provide good value for money, however I prefer to endorse cruelty-free cosmetics, so in the interests of better informing my readers, I will point out that Revlon still currently test on animals, which is sad because I really do like their brand  😦
